The Training Service

Overview

Swale VCS Training is a project supported by SCVS.  We arrange and run short courses (accredited and non-accredited) for the Voluntary and Community Sector in Swale.  Our aim is to provide affordable and relevant training at local venues within the Swale area.

Open Courses

Our open course programmes are arranged in advance and advertised to our members using the website and the SCEN (Swale Community Empowerment Network).  You can view the current programme and download flyers and booking forms. This is an ideal option if you would just like a couple of places on a course.  It is also a good opportunity to get away from the distractions of your normal working environment to allow you to concentrate on learning. Courses are small and informal, and the training environment is purpose-made to enable you to make the most of your learning opportunity. 

All learning materials and certificates are provided and covered in the cost of the course.  There are no hidden extras.  Refreshments are always provided on arrival and at various points during the day, however lunch is not included unless specified.  Booking is done by completion of a simple form and can be done by email or post.  Costs are always kept to a minimum to ensure that you get value for money, and payment for your places is made in advance by cheque or bank transfer.  We are affiliated to various other CVSs in Kent, so if you are a member of one of them, you might still qualify for our excellent rates.  If you are not a member you can still access the course (subject to places being available), but pay a slightly higher rate.  Remember that membership of SCVS is free, so it makes sense to join!

Closed Courses

If you have a training need for your staff team we can arrange and run a course just for you.  It can be held at your premises at a time and date which suits you.  This type of course is often more relevant, cost effective and convenient than sending lots of people on an open course.  Our staff team has a plethora of skills which means many topics can taught, but specialists can be brought in whenever necessary. Again costs are kept to a minimum, and using your own venue ensures that you pay only for the training.  These courses are not advertised to the general public, so if you are interested in booking a closed course, please contact the training department and we will be pleased to discuss requirements and prices.

Bespoke Courses

Sometimes a normal course just won't do, so we can design and run one which is tailor made for your team.  Examples of bespoke courses we have run are: Trustee training for your new trustees, Volunteer training to enable volunteers to better understand what will be required of them, English or IT sessions for your clients.  There are many more possibilities, so please don't hesitate to contact us to discuss your needs.

We are Listening

We pride ourselves on providing relevant training, and therefore keep up to date with the current needs of the Sector.  However if you require a course which is not listed in the current programme we would be glad to hear from you.  Courses can be requested at any stage in the programme, and if we can see that others might also be interested in the subject we can incorporate it into the programme or make sure it's included in the next one.
