Swale Community and Voluntary Services (SCVS) have carried out a survey of local voluntary sector organisations on a wide range of subjects to better understand what services these organisations provide and what support and information they most need.

Swale Community and Voluntary Services recognise that these are difficult times for the voluntary sector and to better understand what the priority needs of the sector are we undertook a survey of local organisations that focused on funding; training needs; information on quality standards and ease of recruiting volunteers and trustees.

During the survey 110 organisations completed a return, which equates to almost 20% of the voluntary sector organisations that are currently known to SCVS but there remains an issue of small "under the radar" groups operating in Swale that are not recognised and do not engage through established routes.
A worrying trend highlighted by the survey was the number of local charities currently showing an annual deficit in their accounts and almost 40% of voluntary organisations stated that they were uncertain about the future of their organisation. However there were also positives including over £600k of funding being brought into Swale last year linked to Grantfinder searches undertaken by SCVS.
